Kame Katana

MartialArtSwords.com introduces the L6 Kame (turtle) Katana. Martial artists who train in tameshigiri or compete regularly will find our competition series especially attractive. This model builds on our Sun Flower Deluxe Katana, a design long praised by the martial arts community.

The competition series is built on our standard katana geometry, which the martial arts community has praised as the best cutter out of the box. It keeps all our standard features, including strong cutting ability, excellent balance and high-quality fittings and mounting, and adds an extremely durable blade only 5.5 mm (0.21 in) thick. At 2.2 lb or less, the competition katana keeps joint and muscle strain to a minimum and lets you swing at much higher speed. The cutting plane is slightly larger than on a traditional katana, which reduces resistance as the blade passes through a target. These katanas are all-purpose cutters, built for soft targets such as tatami omote and for hard targets such as bamboo or oak dowels.

The L6 steel blade is differentially heat treated. It follows shobu-zukuri geometry, and a suguha hamon mixed with mild midare is visible on the blade. The handle is secured at two points for excellent stability. The scabbard, handle and tsuba are handmade and individually fitted to each sword. The handle is covered with genuine ray skin (same) and wrapped in leather.

These swords are newly made, not collectible antiques. The Kame Katana suits intermediate to advanced practitioners.
